I use an application called ascension-log-visualizer to parse the logs from my KoLmafia sessions. It’s a great program with lots of features beyond creating simple text logs. I use it almost exclusively to generate the concise text logs you see here. Unfortunately, there are some things I don’t like about those logs. I’ve made a few changes to my local copy of the visualizer in order to “fix” them. I’m going to discuss those changes in this post.

Tweaking the logs

It’s been bugging me for a while that the visualizer’s logs cluster similar actions. That is, you have the turn indicator, then item drops/semi-rares/BM adventures, then consumables used, and so on. It’s really irritating for someone like me, especially when I’m commenting on a block of 40 turns spent in a single area with a whole bunch of extra details.

The good news is, I hacked up a local copy to change all that. My version orders all events chronologically and shows turn numbers for consumables. Here’s a sample…
